James P. Bohnert, 79, Jasper

James P. Bohnert, 79, of Jasper, died Wednesday (October 11) at St. Vincent Hospital in Carmel. He was born in Jasper January 15, 1938, to Othmar A. and Louise (Gutzweiler) Bohnert. He married Mary Ann Mehringer September 15, 1960, at in St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Jim and his brother John owned and operated the Jasper Locker for a number of years. He later worked as a warehouse manager for several companies. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Jasper American Legion Post #147, Holy Family Catholic Church, and the Jasper Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening, loved animals, and pets, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ann Bohnert; one daughter, Michelle King and husband Ed, Carmel; one son, Anthony James “Tony” Bohnert and wife Mary Lacey, Richmond; two grandchildren, Serena and Zachery King, Carmel; and one sister, Mary Lou Smith and husband George, North Manchester.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, John Bohnert.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Church.  A rosary will be prayed at 8:45 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church, the Holy Family Food Pantry, or the Dubois County Humane Society. Online condolences may be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. American Legion Post #147 will conduct military graveside rites.
