Geneva Z. Himsel, 101, Jasper

Geneva Z Himsel, 101, of Jasper, died Tuesday (October 3) at St Charles Health Campus in Jasper. She was born in Saunemin, Illinois, October 24, 1915, to Earl and Alta Susan (Yates) Brittain. She married Luther Himsel August 29, 1936, in Holland. He died April 24, 1979.

Geneva was a homemaker and also woked in retail at 3-D, Watsons, and Peebles. She served served several years as Vice-County Chairman of the Republican party. She loved cooking, traveling, gardening, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends. She was a member of St John’s Lutheran Church in Boone Township and enjoyed visiting Shiloh Church in Ireland as a guest.

She is survived by one daughter, Judy (Charles) Kerkhove and husband Charles, Greenwood; three sons, Ronald Himsel and wife Connie and Jerry Himsel and wife Bev, all of Jasper, and Tom Himsel and wife Brenda, Greenwood; 26 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Himsel, one brother, Glen Brittain, and an infant sister, Alberta Brittain.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St John’s Church or to a favorite charity. Condolences may be made at Becher-Kluesner Funeral Homes. Funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St John’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Pastor Catherine Burnett and Pastor Paul Alvey will officiate.
