Geneva Z. Himsel, 101, Jasper

Geneva Z. Himsel, 101, of Jasper, died Tuesday (October 3) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. She was born in Saunemin, Illinois, October 24, 1915, to Earl and Alta Susan (Yates) Brittain. She married Luther Himsel August 29, 1936, in Holland. He died April 24, 1979.

Geneva was a homemaker and worked on the farm. She also worked at 3-D, Watsons, and Peebles in Jasper. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boone Township and served as vice county chairman of the Republican Party. She enjoyed flower gardening, travelling, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by one daughter, Judy Kerkhove and husaband Charles, Greenwood; three sons, Tom Himsel and wife Brenda, Greenwood, and Ronald Himsel and wife Connie and Jerry Himsel and wife Bev, all of Jasper; 16 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Himsel, one brother, Glen Brock Brittain, and one sister, Alberta Mae Brittain, who died in infancy.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 17, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, at St. John’s Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be shared at Funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, at St. John’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Pastor Catherine Burnett and Pastor Paul Alvey will officiate.
