Rosena Marie “Cookie Lady” Lankford, 89, Holland

Rosena Marie “Cookie Lady” Lankford, 89, of Holland, died Monday (October 2) at the Northwood Good Samaritan Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Selvin December 15, 1927, to Gustave and Olinda (Hemmer) Broeker. She married Chester Lee Lankford April 13, 1946. He died July 18, 1987.

Rosena was a lifelong member of the Holland United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Youth Fellowship and the Kids in Christ program. She participated in the P.T.A., Quilters Group, Feedsacking Club, March of Dimes, and Alzheimer’s Association. She loved to bake for her family and sold her homemade cookies and coffee cakes for over 50 years. She was a seamstress for over 50 years, most notably recognized for creating the Holland United Methodist Youth Choir robes, the Holland High School Marching Band uniforms, and thousands of clothing items for area residents. She enjoyed gardening and always had beautiful flowers and vegetables to share.

She is survived by four daughters, Linda Snyder and husband Howard, Terre Haute, Mary Carrico and husband David and Nancy Kelley, all of Huntingburg, and Judy Gilliat and husband Gary, Pendleton; one sister, Henrietta Stephens, Jasper; 14 grandchilden; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Jacquelyn Keeper, Jacquelyn Keeper, one grandson, Keith Rogers; and three sisters, Emma Lou Miles, Josephine Shipman and Zelpha, who died in infancy.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Memorial contributions can be made to Heartland Cardiology, Heart to Heart Hospice, or to a local charity for the benefit of children. Online condolences may be shared at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with burial following in Holland Methodist Cemetery. Rev. Wayne Nichols will officiate.
