Murele B. Ahrens, 78, Jasper

Murele B. Ahrens, 78, of Jasper, died Wednesday (September 27) at her daughter’s home in Cannelton. She was born in Portersville March 3, 1939, to Charles and Arletha (Sturgeon) Neukam. She married Kenneth “Zeke” Ahrens, Jr. October 23, 1954. He died August 1, 1984.

Murele worked for Kimball International (Stylemasters) for over 40 years. She was a member of the Women of the Petersburg Moose. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching NASCAR racing, reading books, doing puzzles, and spending time with friends and family.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Hess and husband Harold, Cannelton, and Renee Renee Goepferich and husband John, Holland; six sons, Kenneth Ahrens III and wife Darlene, Corydon, Keith Ahrens and wife Pamela, Tony Ahrens and wife Christy, and Mitch Ahrens, all of Jasper, Christopher Ahrens, Tell City, and Nathan Ahrens and wife Evelene, San Diego, California; 27 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Joyce Dedrick, Petersburg; and three brothers, Carl Neukam and wife Helen, Birdseye, Junior Neukam and wife Barb, Jasper, and James Neukam, Huntingburg.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra Healy, and one great-great grandson, Zane Ahrens.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be shared at Funeral Services at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with burial following in the Jasper Enlow City Cemetery. Pastor Ben Hartwig will officiate.
