Cyrilla Mae Knies, 75, Huntingburg

Cyrilla Mae Knies, 75, of Huntingburg, died Sunday (September 24) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born in St. Henry October 6, 1941, to Emil and Mayme (Sermersheim) Jochem. She married Albert Knies May 5, 1960, at St. Henry Catholic Church.

Cyrilla was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. She worked in the cafeteria at Maple Park and Crestview Schools. She loved her family, gardening, sewing, crocheting, canning, and dancing, and is remembered as being good at the limbo dance.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Albert Knies; five daughters, Kim Hopf and husband Mike, Georgetown, Kyla Schepers and husband Rudy and Kellie Knies and Kandra “Kandi” Knies, all of Jasper, and Karlene Nelson and husband Jeff, Otwell; one brother, Roman Jochem, St. Henry; two sisters, Verena Nordhoff and husband Clarence, Celestine, and Lucille Dooley and husband Glenn, Huntingburg; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Esther Welp.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A parish rosary prayer vigil, led by St. Mary’s Auxiliary, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church. Online condolences may be shared Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The funeral mass will be celebrated by Fatjer Ryan Hilderbrand.
