Dorothy “Sis” Bleemel, 87, Jasper

Dorothy “Sis” Bleemel, 87, of Jasper, died Tuesday (September 19) at her home. She was born in Jasper February 15, 1930, to Matthew and Lillian (Neuhoff) Wilz. She married Elmer Joe Bleemel May 6, 1951, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper. He died November 7, 1988.

Sis retired from the Ireland Co-Op, where she worked for several years. She was a charter member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, a member of the Precious Blood Ladies Sodality and the Golden Girls Class of 1948. She was a girl scout leader and volunteered at Dubois County Community Meals and the Jasper Community Arts Center. She was an avid card player and enjoyed travelling and spending time with her family.

She is survived by four daughters, Sandy Fendel and husband Lee, Bristow, Becky Steffe and husband Doug, Sharps Chapel, Tennesse, and Jane Persohn and husband Denny and Ann Brosmer and husband Tim, all of Jasper; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Bleemel, and one sister, Evelyn “Toots” Hopf.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Precious Blood Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Precious Blood Church or to a favorite charity.
