Dennis Lee Abell, 74, Huntingburg

Dennis Lee Abell, 74, of Huntingburg, died Tuesday (September 5) at his home. He was born in Jasper May 15, 1943, to Colonel and Elma (Chanley) Abell. He married Winonah Elaine Cook April 16, 1966, at Birdseye Christian Church.

Dennis retired as vice president of safety and maintenance at Perkins Specialized Transportation. He then worked part time at Sternberg International Truck Sales. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg, served in the Army National Guard, and enjoyed spending time with his two grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Winonah Elaine Abell; one son, Chris Abell and wife Jessica, Huntingburg; two sisters, Carol Platthy, Santa Claus, and Marilyn Wollenmann, Plainfield, Illinois; three brothers, Elwood and Larry Abell, both of Huntingburg, and Pete Abell, Jasper; and two grandchildren, Loren and Cory Abell.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one stillborn son, Jeffrey Neil Abell, and one brother, Gene Abell.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg and from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at  Salem United Church of Christ. Memorial contributions can be made to Salem United Church of Christ or to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be shared at Funeral services at 2 p.m. Saturday at Salem Church with burial following in Birdseye Cemetery. Pastor Mark West will officiate at the service.
