Alexander “Alex” Emmons II, 69, Jasper

J. Alexander “Alex” Emmons II, 69, of Jasper, died Thursday (September 7) at his home. He was born in Marion to J. Alexander and G. Ruth (Davis) Emmons.

Alex was a graduate of Marion High School and Indiana University, a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and the I.U. Student Senate. After a career in hospital administration he retired from Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He also retired as a chief master sergeant of the United States Air Force Reserve with a total of 33 years of service, including active duty during Operation Desert Storm. He served as a substitute teacher at 10th Street School in Jasper. He was a member of the Jasper Lions Club, Jasper Utilities Board, and a board member and coach in the Jasper Youth Soccer program. He coached youth sports in Indianapolis at Little Flower Catholic School and the East Side Soccer Association. He was an avid runner and completed several marathons. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their school events and watching Indiana University sports.

He is survived by his wife, Mickie (Cahill) Emmons; three sons, Jason Emmons and wife Cindy, Branchville, Alex “Buster” Emmons and wife Amber, Bloomington, and Joshua Emmons, Jasper; two daughters, Lona Moore and husband Joseph, O’Fallon, Illinois, and Sarah Kraft and husband Cory, Springfield, Missouri; 2 grandchildren, Monica, Ethan, Payton, Charles, Macey, Isabella, John, Kaden, Elliana, Isaac, Coralin, and Annalise; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Judy.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church or to the Jasper Lions Club. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Church with burial following at a later date.
