Neva M. Peterson, 88, Birdseye

Neva PetersonNeva M. Peterson, 88, of Birdseye, died Friday (August 25) at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. She was born in Amburgey, Kentucky, August 18, 1929, to George W. and Mary (Tolliver) Madden. She married Gene Peterson August 29, 1952, in Franklin.

Known as Mamaw to her grandchildren, Neva was a homemaker who loved gardening, crocheting, and baking her famous Christmas tree sugar cookies. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Taswell.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Gene Peterson, Birdseye; three daughters, Donna Hoffman and husband Joe and Lisa Allstott and husband Jerry, all of Birdseye, and Diane Wendholt and fiancé Dave Mundy, Jasper; one son, Freddie Peterson, Birdseye; one stepson, Gary Paris, Franklin; seven grandchildren, Rachelle Morrow, Stephanie Holloway, Amber Striegel, Laura Rohl, Kayla Allstott, Jacob Hoffman and Graham Roberts; one step granddaughter, Michelle Paris; six great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Jesse and Brock Rohl, Sylvia and Annabel Holloway, and Nicholas Morrow; one step great grandchild, Stevie Burgett; one brother, Glen Madden, Hindman, Kentucky; and two sisters, Grace Ann Ison, Hindman, Kentucky, and Betty Jane Hodgkiss, Louisville.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Bill, Don, and Lee Madden, and one sister, Becky Madden. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Online condolences may be shared at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with burial following in Birdseye Cemetery. Rev. Kim Allen will officiate at the service.
