Jasper Wins Pool Play Finale; Now Playing “Waiting Game!

Mt. Home, AR (NNDC) – The Jasper 13U All-Stars salvaged a win Sunday night in their fourth and final game of ‘pool play’ in the 2017 13U Babe Ruth World Series.

Jasper finished pool play with a 1-3 mark after defeating Bismarck, ND 11-1 Sunday evening in a game called after six innings.

Now Jasper must wait for the final pool play games scheduled for Monday are completed before the team knows whether or not it it advances to World Series’ single-elimination round that begins tomorrow.

Right now, it appears Jasper will be a longshot to make the finals.

With two more pool play games remaining to be played in Jasper’s division, if both Bismarck and the host team from Mt. Home lose their final pool play games today, Jasper is eliminated.  All three teams will finish pool play at 1-3.  Mt. Home came from behind to beat Jasper 9-6 Saturday night so they have the tie-breaker between the two teams.   Bismarck beat Mt. Home earlier in the World Series, so they have the tie-breaker between those two.

Jasper advances only if Mt. Home beats Keene, NH and Bismarck beats Atlantic Beach, NJ.   Jasper lost to both Keene and Atlantic Beach earlier in the World Series.

Sunday night, Jasper scored two in the bottom of the first inning against Bismarck and added four more runs in the second enroute to the win.   Jasper scored three in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.

Jasper Centerfielder Issac Day had three RBIs for Jasper in the win.

Jack Ahlbrand threw a complete game one-hitter for Jasper striking out six.  Ahlbrand also had two RBIs in the game going 2-4 at the plate (singles).
