Jasper (Local Sources) – Jasper (Local Sources) – Hoosier Hills Credit Union have made a three-year pledge totalling $30,000 t0 community projects including the Jasper LEADS (Library, Enrichment, Arts, Downtown) Community Fund Drive.

The Community Fund Drive was launched through the combined efforts of the Jasper Community Arts Commission and the Jasper Public Library Board who plan to construct a Jasper Cultural Center for the library and arts and assist in ongoing program development. The project also supports the renovation of the historic Astra Theatre and the refurbishing of the current Jasper Arts Center for additional quality arts programming.

Hoosier Hills President and CEO George McNichols is looking forward to both the cultural and economic growth the Community Fund Drive will support. “Part of our mission at Hoosier Hills is to be better for our members by making a positive difference in their communities,” he said. “We appreciate the efforts of the Jasper Community Arts Commission and that of the Jasper Public Library and are so pleased to have the opportunity to partner in the success of their vision.”

Meanwhile, the Jasper Public Library Board Thursday approved what is called an ‘interlocal agreement’ with the City of Jasper and private developer City Properties of Louisville for final design work and other needed construction documents for the new Jasper Cultural Center.

The Jasper Cultural Center is a joint venture between the Jasper Public Library and Jasper Community Arts Commission to built on the site of the former Hoosier Desk Company factory at Third Avenue and Mill Street.

The total cost of the project is an estimated $12 million dollars which will be divided equally between the Jasper Library Board and the Jasper Arts Commission.

Funds from the Jasper LEADs Community Drive Fund will help offset some of the total cost.
