Robert J. “Bobby” Heitz, 84, Huntingburg

Bobby HeitzRobert J. “Bobby” Heitz, 84, of Huntingburg, died Sunday (August 6) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Huntingburg July 24, 1933, to Anselm and Emma (Reckelhoff) Heitz. He married Ardella Stemle May 28, 1955, in St. Anthony.

Bobby was a lifelong farmer on the family homestead farm. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. He loved Farmall tractors, enjoyed bow hunting and was a champion shooter with …Blue River Archery in Corydon, was an avid muzzle loader shooter, coon and deer hunter, and a 49 ½ year cancer survivor.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ardella Heitz; one son, Paul Heitz, Huntingburg; one son-in-law, Randy Boehm, Holland; two sisters, Mary Lou Blessinger, Huntingburg, and Norma Truelove and husband Jack, Jasper; two granddaughters, Angela Burton and husband John, Huntingburg, and Melissa Terwiske and husband Kade, Ireland; two grandsons, Travis Boehm, Indianapolis, and Jonathan Boehm, Holland; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Virginia Boehm, one sister, Anselma “Sally” Heitz, and one brother-in-law, Conrad Blessinger.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A parish rosary prayer vigil, led by Deacon Tom Holsworth, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to your local Cancer Society, St. Mary’s Church, or to the Humane Society. Online condolences may be shared www.nassandson.com. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The mass will be celebrated by Father Ryan Hilderbrand.
