Viola B. Sander, 91, Celestine

Viola SanderViola B. Sander, 91, of Celestine, died Monday (August 7) at her home. She was born in Jasper July 9, 1926, to John and Bertha (Hopf) Vogler. She married Victor Sander April 23, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He died February 17, 2005.

Viola was a homemaker and a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Celestine Campus, and its St. Anne’s Sodality, the Celestine Community Club, and the Celestine Home Economics Club. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Darlene Phillips and Cindy Vernon and husband Tony, all of Louisville, and Martha Goepfrich, Celestine; three sons, Jim Sander and wife Margaret, Ron Sander and wife Mary, and Donnie Sander and wife Linda, all of Celestine; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother, Charlie Vogler and wife Eileen, Jasper; and sister-in-law Mary Ann Vogler, Jasper.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one grandchild, Ryan Sander, one great-grandchild, Kasen Goepfrich, one sister, Marita Sullivan, one brother, Andrew Vogler, and two sons-in-law, Steven Goepfrich and Mark Phillips.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Isidore Parish St. Anne’s Sodality will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Isidore Catholic Parish, the Celestine
Volunteer Fire Department, or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Celestine Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
