Martha A. “Myrt” Stallwood, 95, Hastings, Minnesota

Myrt StallwoodMartha A. “Myrt” Stallwood, 95, of Hastings, Minnesota, died Thursday (July 27) in Hastings. She was born in St. Meinrad December 31, 1921, to Robert and Frances (Ruxer) Becher. She married Leslie Stallwood August 30, 1947. He died August 27, 2005.

Myrt was a graduate of Dale High School and studied at a business school in Indianapolis. She worked for Allison Division of General Motors until 2001 when she and her husband moved to Jasper. Following her husband’s death she split time living in Hastings and Jasper. She was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Indianapolis where she did extensive charity work. She was an avid golfer and an all-around sports fan.

She is survived by two sons, Geoff Stallwood and wife Shirley, Jasper, and George Stallwood and wife Patty, Indianapolis; one daughter, Tracy Steiner and husband John, Hastings, Minnesota; one sister, Dorothy (Dottie) Brosmer, Jasper; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph (Tommy) and Gervase (Jerp) Becher, and one sister, Ann Krodel.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery.
