JASPER REDS GETS FIRST WORLD SERIES IN SINCE 1993

Wichita, KS (NNDC) – The Jasper Reds snapped an 11-game losing streak at the 2017National Baseball Congress World Series Tuesday with an 8-5 win over the Fresno (CA) A’s.

The win was Jasper’s first in the World Series since 1993.  The Reds, which accepted an at-large bid this year will now play Cheney, (KS) Thursday in the third and final game of ‘pool play’ for Jasper.  Jasper, Fresno, Cheney and Westchase (Houston, TX) are in the same pool hoping to advance to the World Series semifinals which begin Friday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita.  This is Jasper’s 6th trip to the NBC World Series (1993, 1994, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017).

Tuesday’s win evens the Reds record at the World Series at 1-1.  Jasper lost its opener Sunday to Westchase 8-0.

The Reds have a chance to advance to the semifinals with a win over Cheney, but it won’t be easy.  The Diamond Dawgs are 2-0 with a roster that features several players who are playing collegiately at perennial power Wichita State.   Cheyney beat Fresno 10-0 in their WS opener Sunday, and beat Westchase Tuesday, 12-9.

If Jasper beats Cheney Thursday, a tie-breaker rule would need to be used to determine if Jasper or Cheney would advance to the semifinals.

Thursday’s game between Jasper and Cheney will be televised LIVE on NNDC-TV including our cable TV channel (Spectrum 183).  Gametime is yet to be determined.

Tuesday’s Jasper win is currently replaying on Spectrum 183.  You can also watch it below…
