Huntingburg Woman Facing Several Felony Charges After Fleeing Accident

nicholsonHuntingburg (NNDC) –  A Huntingburg woman is now facing several felony charges after police say she fled the scene of a personal injury accident late Monday afternoon.

Arrested was 33-year old Sarah Nicholson (pictured).

Huntingburg police say the accident happened at about 5:45pm on U. S. 231 near the intersection with Phoenix Drive on the city’s far north side, but when officers arrived on scene, one of three vehicles involved in the crash had left the scene.

HPD says the vehicle that left the scene was followed by a witness of the crash.  That vehicle was located by police driving south on South 400 West south of 12th Street with heavy damage to its door and Nicholson behind the wheel.

After stopping the vehicle, HPD officers determined Nicholson was under the influence of alcohol.  HPD says she failed field sobriety tests.

HPD also says after Nicholson was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle so officers could gather needed documents from her vehicle, Nicholson was able to open a door.  She attempted to leave the area but was detained again.

Nicholson was taken to Memorial Hospital for medical clearance before she was taken to the Dubois County Security Center.

She is being held on a $2500 cash bond charged with a Level 5 felony count and Level 6 felony counts of operating while intoxicated (with a prior conviction within five years) and obstruction of justice.  She is also charged with a as well as a misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of a crash with injuries.
