Crews Putting Final Touches To New Jasper Turf (PHOTOS)

Jasper (NNDC) – Crews are in the final hours, literally, of installing the new all-weather turf at Jasper’s Jerry Brewer Alumni Stadium.

The turf, paid for by an anonymous donor, will be ready for the Jasper High School football team when practice for the upcoming 2017 season begins the in August.  Crews are expected to be finished with the installation this week.

The new field will be called “Joe Rohleder Field at Jerry Brewer Alumni Stadium.

Rohleder was an assistant under former JHS head coach Jerry Brewer for many of Brewers’ 44 years with the Wildcats; winning the 4A IHSAA state championship in 2001.

Rohleder, a 1958 graduate of Jasper, is an inductee of both the Indiana Football and Wrestling Halls of Fame.

Jasper will be the first member of the Big 8 Conference with an artificial turf home field. Also many of the 4A teams Jasper competes with have the all-weather turf, including all of the Evansville public schools.

In addition to the new turf, the running track and field event areas at the stadium are also being replaced.
