Richard L. Steinhart, 88, Jasper

Richard SteinhartRichard L. Steinhart, 88, of Jasper, died Thursday (July 13) at Northwood Retirement Center in Jasper. He was born in Ireland June 7, 1929, to George and Emma (Sermersheim) Steinhart.

Richard retired from the Jasper Veneer Mills where he worked for 37 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He enjoyed playing cards, Wii Bowling, and Bingo. He was a historian and enjoyed talking with people, especially in German.

He is survived by one sister, Mary Jane Neuhoff, Jasper; four nephews, Kenneth Neuhoff and wife Kathleen, John Neuhoff, Tom Neuhoff and wife Karen, and Harold Neuhoff Jr.; five nieces, Sue Schroeder and husband David, Debra Lueken and husband Timothy, Cindy Bredhold and husband David, Cheryl Hentrup and husband Kenny, and Mary Jo Begle and husband David; and several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Jean Steinhart, and one brother-in-law, Harold Neuhoff Sr.

Friends may call from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Rosary will be prayed at noon Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or to Northwood Retirement Community Center in Jasper. Online condolences may be made at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church with burial following in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ireland.
