Local Woman Charged With Felony OWI; Had 7-Year Old Son In Car



Huntingburg (NNDC) – Jasper police say a 29-year old Huntingburg woman was arrested Thursday after she was driving drunk with her seven-year old son in the car with her.

Arrested was Michelle Nugent of Huntingburg.

According to the Jasper Police Department, officers were notified shortly before 2:00pm of a car crossing the center line and fog line.  JPD says officers stopped Nugent’s car at 14th and Newton Streets.  It was determined by officers Nugent was under the influence of alcohol.  She was taken into custody after she tested .22% on a field breathalyzer test.

and arrested her after she tested .22 percent blood alcohol content with a personal breathalyzer test.

JPD says officers found numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia and two legend drugs during a subsequent search of her car.

Nugent was charged with a Level 6 felony count of operating while intoxicated; endangerment of a minor.   She is also preliminarily charged with possession of a legend drug and paraphernalia.

JPD says Nugent later tested .231% on a certified breathalyzer test at police headquarters.

Jasper Man Charged With Storage Unit Burglary; Unit Belonged To State Trooper



Jasper (NNDC) – Meanwhile, a Jasper man was arrested Wednesday after police say he burglarized a local storage unit belonging to an Indiana State Trooper.

Police say Indiana State Master Trooper Brian LaRoche reported his storage unit in Jasper had been burglarized by someone who had gained access through the wall of the adjacent storage unit.

LaRoche says multiple items were taken including a weed trimmer and panels for a dog kennel.

Police say ISP Senior Trooper Brock Werne talked with the lessee of the storage unit next door who told him the only other person with access to that unit was 29-year-old Joseph Frank of Jasper.

Police say Werne went to Frank’s address in Jasper to talk with him.

Police say while standing on the front porch, Werne and LaRoche observed a weed trimmer that LaRoche identified as his.  The officers later located all of LaRoche’s stolen items.   Frank was then taken into custody.

He’s charged with a Level 5 felony count of burglary and a Class A misdemeanor count of theft.
