Evansville (WEHT/WTVW) – Jasper is once again listed among the top ten safest cities in Indiana.

The SafeWise report for 2017 listed Jasper, IN as the 10th safest city in the Hoosier state. Jasper is the only city is our area to make the list.  Jasper was also listed 10th safest in 2015 and has ranked as high as 8th in previous years.

The report considered statistics from the 2015 FBI Crime Report and population data. Only cities with a population of at least 4,00 were considered.

The number 1 safest city in the state according to the 2017 report was Ligonier.

To identify the safest cities in Indiana, SafeWise reviewed the 2015 FBI Crime Report statistics and population data.

SafeWise eliminated all cities with fewer than 4,000 residents as well as any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI.

From there, SafeWise evaluated the remaining cities. It narrowed the list down based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) in each city. To level the playing field, we calculated the likelihood of these crimes occurring out of 1,000 people in each city.
