Three Injured; None Seriously When Fireworks Go Awry Near Ferdinand

Ferdinand (NNDC) – Three people were injured, none seriously, at a private fireworks get-together southwest of Ferdinand Monday evening.

A spokesman for the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department says it appears one of the fireworks that was part of the evening’s ‘finale’ was loaded into a launching canister upside down causing it to explode outwardly and toward the crowd that had gathered for the evening.

FVFD says sparks struck three people.  One caused a sizable burn to the neck of one of the victims.  He was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.

The other two were treated at the scene.

The incident happened just before 10:30pm on a private farm along East Mariah Hill Road just north of I-64 southwest of Ferdinand.
