Kleinhelter Announces Candidacy For Dubois County Sheriff

Jasper (NNDC) – Tom Kleinhelter, the current Detective Sergeant of the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says now is the “right time” to vy for the department’s top position.

Kleinhelter, in a news release says, “I am excited about the opportunity to run for the office of Sheriff of Dubois County in 2018.

Kleinhelter started with the Sheriff’s Department in 1994 as a Jail Officer, and advanced through the department rantks holding every position that is available through testing and interviews.

“I have been the Detective Sergeant for the past 5 years where I am the lead investigator on most of the crimes against people of our county.  I also supervise the department’s evidence room as well as serve as the department’s narcotics officer.

Kleinhelter tells NewsNow Dubois County, personally, the time is right to purse the Sheriff’s position.

“I have two grown kids now, so I will have the needed time to perform the extra duties that come with the office.  This is NOT an 8 hour-a-day job.”

Current Dubois County Sheriff Donny Lampert is prevented from running for a third consecutive term when his current term expires on January 1, 2019.

Kleinhelter goes on to say, “I believe the Sheriff’s Department is the premier law enforcement agency in the county. I will use the tremendous amount of knowledge within our department to continuously improve, which will allow us to serve our citizens more efficiently and be more of a proactive agency. It is no secret that we have an opioid problem in our county, and I will work with all of our state and county offices to find a solution to help reduce the number of individuals returning to jail as repeat offenders.”

Kleinhelter has been an active member of numerous boards and organizations throughout my career, including the Drug Court, the Community Correction Advisory Board, the Child Advocacy Center, and he’s a Certified Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Training Officer.

An avid supporter of youth sports, Kleinhelter is a licensed official for the Indiana High School Athletic Association for both baseball and basketball.

He is also member of the Knights of Columbus.

He and his wife Angie have been married for 25 years and are the parents of two adult children, Taylor and Reece

Kleinhelter, who will run as a Republican, says he will be a good Sheriff for Dubois County because is an excellent listener and, “I do not rush to judgment.”

He goes on to say, “I have the broad experience, leadership, and organizational skills needed to be an outstanding choice for the citizens of Dubois County to serve as your next Sheriff.”
