Head-On Collision Sends One To Hospital; Gun Possession Charge Pending

Ferdinand (NNDC) – An early monring two-vehicle head-on collision in Ferdinand resulted in one of the driver’s involved being Life-Flighted from the scene.

Ferdinand police say just before 1:30am Sunday a car driven by 48-year old Johnny Ward of Taswell and an SUV driven by 37-year old Jonathon Moffatt of Crane collided while both vehicles were in the northbound lane of Indiana 162 near South View Drive. just north of I-64.

Ward was LifeFlighted to St. Vincent Hospital (formerly St. Mary’s) in Evansville with what police say were numerous injuries to his head and face.

Police say Moffatt was treated for chest and leg pain. A minor was also injured, but the injuries were not serious.

Meanwhile, police say Ward is facing preliminary counts of Possession of a Handgun Without a License (Level 5 felony), a misdemeanor count of Reckless Driving.  Police say Ward was driving without his car’s headlights on.

Police say the accident remains under investigation.
