Karen MurrayKaren A. “Matty” Murray, 69, of Jasper, died Friday (June 23) at Deaconess Gateway in Evansville. She was born in Jasper November 5, 1947, to Ernie and Jean (Gootee) Matheis. She married Harold Murray on March 31, 1973, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

Matty was a 1965 graduate of Jasper High School. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in education from Indiana State University. She was a teacher at Holy Family School in Jasper and retired from Holy Family after teaching for 35 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, enjoyed painting, crossword puzzles, and spending time with family and friends, and was a dog lover.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Murray; two sons, Kevin Murray, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Luke Murray, Otwell; one granddaughter, Casie Murray, Charlotte, North Carolina; three sisters, Chris Marple and husband, Steve, Armona, California, Cathne Brown, Evansville, and Lori Kunkel and husband, Dave, Jasper; two brothers, Larry Matheis and wife, June, Newburgh, and Pat Matheis and wife, Debbie, Jasper; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one nephew, Brian Matheis, her godchild.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. A rosary will be prayed by St. Joseph parish at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery.
