Mary Virginia Steltenpohl, 89, Ferdinand

Mary SteltenpohlMary Virginia Steltenpohl, 89, of Ferdinand, died Wednesday (June 21) at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. She was born in Mariah Hill February 10, 1928, to Albert “Shorty” and Verena (Gogel) Wirthwein. She married Ralph “Roxie” J. Steltenpohl June 3, 1947, at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Mariah Hill. He died September 22, 1997.

Mary was a daycare provider and loved spending time with children. She enjoyed reading, gardening, quilting, bird-watching, and watching gameshows.

She is survived by two sons, Glen Steltenpohl and wife Anja and Joseph Steltenpohl, all of Ferdinand; one daughter, Diane King and husband James, Ferdinand; three sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Hoffman, Ann Arbor, Michigan., Rosie (Dan) Hauser and husband Dan, Schnellville, and Vera Lee Zingraf and husband Dick, Fishers; one brother, Michael Wirthwein and wife Patty, Grandview; and two grandchildren, Megan King, Ferdinand, and Crystal Steltenpohl, Chicago.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Wirthwein, and one grandson, Ian King.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Monday and from 7-8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Online condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand with burial following in the church cemetery.
