Celebration Features Movie With A Whole Lot Of ‘Extras’ (VIDEO)

Huntingburg (NNDC) – 25 YEARS AGO THIS MONTH, COLUMBIA PICTURES RELEASED THE NOW ICONIC  BASEBALL MOVIE, MUCH OF IT FILMED IN HUNTINGBURG.

THIS WEEKEND, HUNTINGBURG IS CELEBRATING ITS ROLE IN THE MOVIE WITH  SEVERAL EVENTS. THE FIRST OF WHICH WAS A PUBLIC VIEWING OF THE MOVIE AND LIKE THE MOVIE, LAST NIGHT WAS FULL OF ‘EXTRAS’…

It was a packed house at the Gaslight Restaurant Thursday evening for the weekend’s first official event.  Among those in the large crowd… extras… movie extras!  Those who donned period attire and hairdos back in the summer of 1991 to be part of the movie’s filming in Huntingburg.  They include Shannon Fuhs who is part of the committee hosting this weekend’s 25th Anniversary celebration… (SHANNON/ANN/PEGGY/THERESA ON CAM)

Ron Soellner was also in the movie… he had a more visible role as one of the umpires in the film…  He drove all the way
from Kenosha Wisconsin where he lives now to be here this weekend…(RON ON CAMERA)

The weekend’s events continue Friday night with a 1940’s themed A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN” COCKTAIL EVENT at the Huntingburg Events Center.

Among those scheduled to attend, Bitty Schram who played Peaches rightfielder Evelyn Gardner.  She and Tom Hanks were in one of the movie’s most famous scenes…(SOT OF “THERE’S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL”)

Also scheduled to be here… Justin Scheller… who played Evelyn’s rambunctious son Stillwell.

Soellner says the movie has remained popular these past 25 years for the same reasons it will endure for many years to come… (RON ON CAM CALLING MOVIE TIMELESS)
