Emily G. Platt, 93, Jasper

Emily PlattEmily G. Platt, 93, of Jasper, died Sunday (June 11) at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois. She was born in Chicago June 23, 1923, to James Blaha and Marie (Weber) Platt. She married Harry Platt October 16, 1943, in Chicago. He died September 23, 1990.

Emily was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and its Women’s Guild. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and had a love for volunteering for many organizations, including the Dubois County Humane Society, American Eagle Foundation, and Angel Works. She was a Cub Scout and 4-H
leader and a RSVP Tri-Cap Volunteer. She enjoyed visiting and playing cards with the mentally challenged at SIRS and visiting people in area nursing homes. She started the Ladies Breakfast Group after the passing of her husband.

She is survived by one son, Randall Platt and wife Victoria, Lake Villa, Illinois; four grandchildren, Jennifer Griffen and Steven, Stephanie, and Brittany Platt; and daughter-in-law Cathy Platt.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Bruce Platt, three sisters, Marie, Josephine, and Clara, and one brother, James.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at Trinity United Church of Christ. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Church or to a favorite charity.
