Cats Return For Another Try At 6th State Baseball Crown (VIDEO)

Jasper (NNDC) – The Jasper Wildcats, one of the state’s more prolific baseball programs, are returning to Indianapolis Saturday in search of their 6th IHSAA state baseball title.   Jasper has come up short three times in the state final game (2010, 2013, 2015) since they won their last title in 2006…

Jasper had to literally hang on to make its 9th trip to a state baseball championship game.

Last Saturday, Jasper denied defending 3A champ Northview a chance at a repeat when Adam Hedinger held his ground on this collision at home plate in the bottom of the 10th inning.

The IHSAA doesn’t allow collision’s like this , so Northview’s Brigham Booe was officially called out at the point of contact. But Hedinger and his teammates know if Justin Pershon’s relay from third to home on the play is not on the mark, there more than likely would have been no collision and the game would have been tied… (Adam Hedinger and Justin Pershon on camera talking about the relay to home).

With the win over Northview how behind them, all that stands between the Wildcats and their 6th state baseball title is first-time state finalist South Bend St. Joseph and their left-handed ace Michael Dunkelberger, an IU commit. He’s 6-2 in nine starts with an ERA below 1.9… (Terry Gobert on camera talking about the strength of St. Joseph’s pitching staff).

Jasper is 30-4 heading into Saturday’s game… St. Joseph is 24-4.  First pitch is at 2pm at Victory Field.
