One Hospitalized In 4-Vehicle Accident near Ireland

Ireland (Local Sources) – One person was injured in a four-vehicle accident between Jasper and Ireland late this (Thursday) morning.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says three of the vehicles involved in the accident were totaled.

DCSD says a pickup truck driven by 20-year old Canton Wolf of Winslow was traveling west on Indiana 56 shortly before 12Noon when he failed to see a car stopped in front of him preparing to make a left-hand turn onto county road West 180 North.  The car was driven by 66-year old Bette Gibson of Loogootee.

DCSD says the impact of the collision pushed Gibson’s car into an eastbound pickup truck driven by 45-year old Rachel Uebelhor of Jasper.

Authorities say the second impact caused Uebelhor’s driver’s side front tire to come off.  The tire went airborne and struck a concrete barrier.  The tire continued on then hit the passenger door of a car driven by 72-year old Marlene Schmitt of Jasper.

Gibson was taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper by ambulance for pain to her neck.

Uebelhor had an abrasion to her wrist but refused treatment at the scene.
