Viola C. Schroeder, 89, Jasper

Viola SchroederViola C. Schroeder, 89, of Jasper, died Monday (June 5) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Jasper October 2, 1927, to Leander and Rose (Dick) Giesler. She married Orville J. Schroeder May 31, 1939, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He died September 28, 2016.

Viola was employed by Buehler Foods for many years and after retirement was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Blessed Virgin Sodality, and the Jasper Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed quilting and cooking and loved playing cards and spending time with her family.

She is survived by three daughters, Cindy Cleveland, Indianapolis, and Bev Kuper, and husband George and Debbie Matheis, and husband Pat, all of Jasper; one son, Greg Schroeder and wife Michelle, Jasper; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leona Knust, and husband Reynold, Ferdinand, and Sr. Mildred Giesler, St. Mary of the Woods; and one brother, Sylvester Giesler and wife, Irene, Jasper.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one grandson, BGrian Matheis, three sisters, Ardella Heim, Mary Ann Uebelhor, and Florence Neuhoff, and four brothers, Arnold, Edward, Herman, and Robert Giesler.

Friends may call from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Friday at Holy Family Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery.
