Survey Says: Build New School (VIDEO)

Jasper (NNDC) – For several years now, the Greater Jasper Consolidated School Corporation has been trying to decide if it should replace or renovated two aging and technologically-outdated school buildings, or replace them with a brand new one.

A recent survey told school officials what they should do…

80 percent of those who took part in the survey say would approve if the Jasper school board combines both 5th and 10th Street into a single K-5 school in a brand new building near the current Jasper middle school.

Tuesday night, Jasper schools superintent Dr. Tracy Lorey shared results of the survey that also asked local residents for their input into the school corporation’s Visions 2020 plan to meet its future needs.

The Jasper School Board will make the final decision on whether or not to build the new elementary school. That decision could be made when the board meets later this month.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: If all falls into place, construction of the new elementary school could begin sometime during the 2018-19 school year.
