Helen C. Hopf, 85, Huntingburg

Helen C. HopfHelen C. Hopf, 85, of Huntingburg, died Tuesday (June 6) at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in St. Henry October 30, 1931, to Paul and Anna (Moeller) Oeding. She married William A. Hopf April 22, 1950, at St. Henry Catholic Church. He died February 20, 2002.

Helen was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. She loved flowers, gardening, embroidering, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and its Ladies Sodality.

She is survived by six daughters, Elaine Miller and husband Ralph and Kathy Hochgesang and husband Gary, all of St. Anthony, Mary Hopf, Holland, Bonnie Hochgesang and husband Mike, Jasper, and Linda Lichlyter and husband Rick and Beth Hollinden and husband Tom, all of Huntingburg; seven sons, Stephen Hopf and wife Jana, Celina, Ohio, David Hopf and wife Joyce and Kevin Hopf and wife Angie, all of Birdseye, John Hopf and wife Connie, Bretzville, Tom Hopf and wife Kathy, St. Anthony, Keith Hopf and wife Susan, Kyana, and Marvin Hopf, Huntingburg; one brother, Edgar Oeding and wife Mildred, Jasper; one sister, Marie Gessner, Ferdinand, 32 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Cecelia and Rosa Kerstiens, six brothers, Gregory, Leo, Bernard, Roman, Linus, and Ralph “Pete” Oeding; and two great-grandchildren, twins Samual and Aiden Miller.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. Online condolences may be shared at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
