Ramsey (NNDC) – The Jasper Wildcats quest for another state baseball title continues as the Wildcats downed Lawrenceburg 4-2 Saturday night in the IHSAA Class 3A Regional at North Harrison High School.

Jasper allowed one run in the first inning before rallying with three runs in the fourth.

Two of Jasper’s three fourth inning runs came on an error before Josh Weidenbenner hit an RBI single.

The Wildcats, now 29-4, added another run in the seventh on an Austin Simmers sacrifice fly.

Connor O’Brien was the winning pitcher after allowing two runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings pitched. He struck out six.

Jasper, the top rated team (#2) remaining in the 2017 3A tournament will play No. 4 Northview (24-3) Saturday in the one-game semistate round to be played at Jasper.

Earlier in the day in the 3A Regional semifinals, The Wildcats batted around and scored three in the top of the first inning on their way to a 13-3 semifinal win over Silver Creek by mercy rule.

Senior righthander Reece Kleinhelter (8-2) earned the win in 4 1/2 innings he pitched. He walked five, struck out five and allowed three earned runs.

Jeeps 1A Tournament Run Ends

Loogootee (NNDC) – Saturday’s rematch between Northeast Dubois and Lanesville in Class 1A IHSAA Regional championship was not near the extra inning thriller the two teams played here a year ago.

Lanesville scored one fun in the first, two in the second, one in the fourth and two in the sixth enroute to the 7-1 win.

The Eagles’ Tommy Tidstrom hit his second home run of the day in the sixth for the #7 ranked Eagles.

Northeast Dubois’ only run came in the third. The Jeeps finish the year 18-7.

Lanesville (18-6) is the defending 1A state runners-up.

Earlier in the day, the Jeeps beat Trinity Lutheran, 6-1, in the regional semifinals to return to the championship game.
