Jasper’s State Title Run In Girls Tennis Ends; JHS Golfers Win Sectional

Carmel (NNDC) – The Jasper High School girls tennis team’s quest for a state title ended in the quarterfinals of the 2017 IHSAA State Tournament.

At Carmel, the #9 ranked Lady Wildcats lost to #7 South Bend St. Joseph 3-2 at Carmel High School.

Jasper’s two individual match wins were at #2 Singles where freshman Suchi Bandaru won in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) over St. Bend St. Joseph’s Natalie Sill and at #3 Singles with senior Mallory Ahlbrand defeated Isabel Neal (6-2, 6-0).

Jasper’s #1 Singles player junior Sarah Monesmith lost (6-3, 6-2) to Maddie Yergler who has lost only one match in the 2017 season.

Jasper’s two doubles teams, Caroline Theil & Olivia Yarbrough and Kathleen Messmer and Jillian Seger both lost in straight sets.

Jasper who has made the girls state finals the last three seasons were defeated by St. Joseph, 4-1, in last year’s semifinal round.


Jasper (NNDC) – The Jasper boys golf team easily outdistanced the field in winning Friday’s IHSAA Sectional played at Sultan’s Run Golf Club.

Jasper’s team score of 311 was 28 strokes better than second place Heritage Hills (339).  Forest Park (349) was third in the 11-team sectional. Both Jasper and Forest Park advance to this Thursday’s IHSAA Regional at Champions Pointe Golf Club near Henryville.

Jasper’s Carson Pierce took medalist honors with a nine-hole score of 70 Friday at Sultan’s Run.  Jack Bies carded a 77 for Jasper.
