Traffic Stop Nets Two Arrests On Gun; Drug Charges

Jasper (NNDC) – Two local men were arrested after an alert Jasper Police Department officer knew one of the two was driving with a suspended license Wednesday night.

Shortly after 8:30pm, JPD says the officer spotted an SUV driven by 23-year old Dylan Crays on Jasper’s far northside.  JPD says Crays was known to police and after getting confirmation Crays’ license was suspected, the SUV was pulled over near 36th and Newton streets.

Police say a second man was in the SUV with Crays; 32-year old Demetrius Greer.  Both Crays and Greer are from Jasper.

JPD’s K-9, Ares, was brought to the scene and according to police indicated to officers of possible suspicious items in the vehicle.

JPD says a search of the vehicle by officers found a 9mm handgun in a gym bag behind the passenger seat. Police says smoking pipes with white residue and a white substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine were found in the SUV’s console, .

Both men were taken into custody.

JPD says Greer is charged with a Level 4 felony count of possession of a handgun by a violent felon as well as a Level 6 felony count of possession of methamphetamine.  He’s also been charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of a handgun without a license and possession of paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, Crays has been charged with a Level 6 felony count of possession of methamphetamine possession as well as misdemeanor counts of driving while suspended, possession of a handgun without a license and possession of paraphernalia.
