Nancy Kay Abell, 74, Jasper

Nancy AbellNancy Kay Abell, 74, of Jasper, died Sunday at Memorial Hospital and Health Care in Jasper. She was born in Indianapolis March 28, 1943.

Nancy was a graduate of Lawrence Central High School, attended Ball State University, and was employed by Southern Hills Counseling Center prior to her retirement.

She is survived by her husband, Peter Abell; her mother, Miriam Hanscom; one brother, Rod and wife Bette Hanscom; one daughter, daughter, Tanya Heflin; one son, Troy Heflin and wife Kris; two stepdaughters, Sarah Abell and Anne Hager and husband Sean; and five grandchildren, Nick, Lauren, and Lydia Heflin, Adara Carr, and Alex Hager.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Hanscom.

Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Donations may be made in Nancy’s name to the Lusgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research at A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg, where she was a member of the choir for 33 years.
