haugFerdinand Man Arrested In Child Predator ‘Sting’

Petersburg (NNDC) – A 60-year old Ferdinand man has been arrested as part of a “child predator sting operation.”

Arrested this past Friday evening was 60-year old Stephen Haug (pictured).  PPD says Haug was arrested for having a “sexually explicit conversation with a supposed 13-year old girl and making arrangements to meet her.

The alleged conversation was actually with a decoy used by Petersburg Police impersonating a yound child.  Haug was arrested by police when he arrived at the meeting place.

The charge Haug now faces is a Level 4 felony.   He’s being held in the Pike County Jail in Petersburg on $250,000 bond.

 

JPD Seeks Help With Accident Investigation

Jasper (NNDC) – Jasper police are asking for witnesses of a two truck accident Wednesday afternoon on U. S. 231 at the entrance to the Southgate Shopping Center.

The accident happened shortly before 3:30pm.

JPD says 26-year old Peter Langer of Huntingburg was driving northbound on 231 and 30-year old Nicholas Dills of Jasper was eastbound from the shopping center when both pickup trucks entered the intersection and collided.

Both trucks were heavily damaged.

JPD is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who as any information about it to call police at 812-482-2255 or the  Jasper Police Department’s anonymous tip line: 812-481-COPS (2677).

Broken Power Line Catches Fire

St. Henry (NNDC) – An arcing power line broke away from its pole causing a small fire to break out over the noon hour Wednesday.

St. Fire Chief Steve Eckert says South 100 West just east of town was closed off in both directions as the broken power line was found hanging about 10′ above the roadway; the top of the pole the broke away from was still burning.

Dubois REC crews were called to the scene.  SHVFD provided water for the Dubois REC crew that used it to put out the fire so repairs could be made.

Medical Condition Cited As Car Strikes Jasper House

Jasper (NNDC) – A medical condition is being blamed for an accident Tuesday afternoon when a car left the road and struck a home.

The accident happened at about 1:50pm.

Jasper police say 25-year old Stafanie R. Boeglin of Ferdinand, was southbound on Newton Street when she turned left onto 15th Street.  She told police the car jumped the curb running off of the street.   She told police a medical condition caused her to lose control of her vehicle.

JPD says Boeglin’s car went through an empty lot into the alley between Main and Newton streets where it clipped a carport.  The car continued on before going through the backyard of a home in the 1400 Main Street before striking the house.

JPD says there were no injuries in the crash.  Boeglin refused medical treatment for the medical condition.

JPD says the home had damage to the plumbing as well as its exterior.  Boeglin’s car was considered a total loss.
