Betty Staff2Betty Davis Staff, 89, of Huntingburg, died Friday (May 14) at Brookside Village in Jasper. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri November 1, 1927, to Carl A. and Lelia L. Davis.

Betty graduated from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois, in 1948 with a bachelor’s degree in English and drama. In August of 1948 she married Ens. William A. (Bill) Staff (USN). She moved with him to Pensacola, Florida and later to San Diego, California, Corpus Christie, Texas, San Diego, California, Oak Harbor, Washington, Champaign, Illinois, Norfolk, Virginia, Shenandoah, Iowa, and Evansville, Indiana, where they lived for 27 years before retiring to Fairhope, Alabama in 1988. During a 21 year career with the Evansville-Vanderburgh County School Corporation she taught speech therapy in several elementary schools and drama and English at Reitz High School. She was an active amateur thespian for many years with Evansville Civic Theater and was a long-time member and elder of First Presbyterian Church. In Fairhope. She enjoyed her involvement in several civic organizations, especially the Eastern Shore Art Center where she served on the board of directors and as board president. In 2006 she and her husband moved to Huntingburg to be near their eldest son’s family.

She is survived by three sons, Noll A. Staff and wife Ann, St. Anthony, Eric Todd Staff, Nashville, Tennessee, and Kirk D. Staff and wife Linda, Columbus, Ohio; three grandsons, one step-grandson, two granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
