James “JD” Durlauf, 58, Ferdinand

James JD DurlaufJames “JD” Durlauf, 58, of Ferdinand, died Friday at his home. He was born in Huntingburg June 10, 1958, to Jerry and Ruth (Becher) Durlauf.

James was an upholsterer at Best Home Furnishings in Ferdinand. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Jasper Gun Club and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed playing softball, traveling, riding his Harley, and being with family and friends. He was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Indiana University basketball.

He is survived by his life partner, Connie Eckert, Ferdinand; one son, Jeff Durlauf and wife Megan, Ferdinand; three daughters, Erica Hohl and husband Alex, St. Henry, Crystal Bratton and husband Mitch, Bloomington, and Kyla Eckert, Ferdinand; three sisters, Jane Oeding and husband Gary, Ferdinand, Susie Schmitt and husband Lee Ray, Washington, and Diane Lange and husband Gary, Huntingburg; two brothers, Bobby Durlauf, Ferdinand, and Mike (Sam) Durlauf, Fort Walton Beach, Florida; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Durlauf.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Thursday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Online condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ferdinand Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
