Jasper Man Arrested For O.W.I.; Having Loaded Gun Without Permit

Huntingburg (NNDC) – Police say a Jasper man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after police were alerted of alleged trespassing in the area of Lake Helmerich.

Arrested was 48-year old Dan Drew.  Huntingburg police say the vehicle the man and a woman were reported to be in was spotted at the West 1st Street and West 1st Avenue area of Huntingburg at about 2:00pm by HPD detective Sgt. Christian Gogel.

HPD says upon further investigation, Drew, the driver of the car, had been drinking alcohol failed some field sobriety tests.

Dubois County sheriff’s deputy, Jesus Monarez arrived, with DCSD K-9 Karma.

HPD says a perimeter search of the vehicle by Karma, uncovered a 9MM pistol under the driver’s seat.

HPD says Drew does not have an Indiana handgun license to carry the weapon.

After being taken into custody, Drew was taken to HPD headquarters where a chemical test registered his blood alcohol content at .12%.

Drew is charged with Operating (a motor vehicle) While Intoxicated and Carrying a Handgun without a License, both charges Class A misdemeanors.

He is free on $500 bond from the Dubois County Security Center.
