Lawrence E. “Larry” Stenftenagel, 92, Ireland

Lawrence StenftenagelLawrence E. “Larry” Stenftenagel, 92, of Ireland, died Monday (May 8) at Memorial Hospital in Jasper. He was born in Huntingburg September 23, 1924, to Edward Joseph and Gertrude (Neuhoff) Stenftenagel. He married Bernita Hulsman May 18, 1948, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. She died January 2, 2010.

Larry was a United States Army veteran and a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal. He worked as an electrician for Hulsman Electric for 30 years and was then self-employed. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, American Legion Post No. 147, VFW Post No. 673, and the Ireland Sportsman Club, one of the club’s original founders.

He is survived by two daughters, Sarah Braunecker and husband, Mark, Ireland, and Carol Wehr and husband, Roger, Velpen; two sons, Brett Stenftenagel and wife Candice and Scott Stenftenagel and wife Karen, all of Ireland; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald “Dutch” Stenftenagel.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two sisters, JoAnne Prechtel and one who died in infancy, and one brother, Jerome “Dimp” Stenftenagel.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Church building fund or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery. American Legion Post No.147 will conduct military graveside rites.
