Southridge Sports Awards Presented (PHOTOS)

IMG_2197IMG_2195Huntingburg (NNDC) – The 44th annual Southridge High School All-Sports Awards banquet was held Tuesday evening at Reflections Banquet Hall.

Lauren Meyer (pictured lower right) was presented the Outstandng Senior Athlete Award.  Meyer, a four-year member of both the Raiders’ track & field and cross country teams will run for the University of Evansville beginning this fall.

She was a All-Conference in both track & field and cross country three years;  She also competed at the semistate in cross country all four years at SHS.

The John M. Bretz Award went to Jack Michel (pictured upper right), who will play football next fall at Indiana State University.

Ross Eckert (pictured upper left) was presented the Tom Fuhs Mental Attitude Award.  Ross will play football at Hanover College in the fall.

The Lady Raider Mental Attitude Award went to Emily Eckert (pictured lower left).

And Al Mihajlovits was presented the Jim Bardwell “Spirit of Southridge” award.

Mihajlovits retired last spring after a 43-year tenure with Southwest Dubois School Corporation.

He held several positions over the years including teacher, coach, principal, an assistant superintendent and a transportation director.

Mihajlovits started his career in 1973 as a U.S. history and physical education teacher at Southridge High School.

He was the long-time wrestling coach at SHS; his final season was 1993.  He’s a member of the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
