Jasper Man Arrested for False Reporting

HAMILTONJasper (WEHT / NNDC) – About 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jasper Police stopped a car as it was driving around barricades and through high water near the intersection of 2nd and Clay Street.

Authorities say that the driver of the vehicle claimed he did not have a driver’s license, giving police a name and identifying himself as a resident of Evansville.

Officers say they weren’t able to make a proper identification with the information provided, and determined the driver was lying about his identity.

He was them taken into custody for false informing.

Police say that during a search of the vehicle, a driver’s license was located, tucked down into the driver’s side door.

The license enabled authorities to match the driver to the license photo, and police say they were then able to positively identify the driver as 30-year-old Zachary B. Hamilton of Jasper.

After running Hamilton’s information, police say that Hamilton’s was driving on a suspended license, and had a prior conviction.

Hamilton had two warrants out of Dubois County, one out of Orange County.

He has been charged with False Informing and Driving While Suspended with a prior.

The Dubois County warrants were for a Petition to Revoke on a marijuana charge and Failure to Return to Lawful Detention. The Orange County Warrant was for Failure to Appear for a charge of driving while suspended with a prior conviction.
