HPD’s New K9 Officer

Huntingburg (NNDC) – Huntingburg Police Department officer Cody Byrd is the department’s new K9 officer with partner “Esther.”

HPD Chief Arthur Parks says Byrd and K9 Ester attended the American Police Canine Association narcotic detection course in Bedford last month and two of them were certified as a team in the detection of illicit narcotics.

Byrd and K9 Ester are currently taking part in a five-week patrol school in which they will be certified in obedience, tracking, article, area, and building searches, as well as obedience / aggression control (apprehension & detaining).

Officer Byrd has been with HPD for 10 years.

K9 Esther is a four-year old German Shepherd from Poland. She became part of HPD in October of 2014
