Local Man Flees Drug Court; Arrested After Being Chased Into Patoka River

GehlhausenJasper (NNDC) – A local man fled the Dubois County Drug Court office after an appoiuntment there late Tuesday morning but was caught a short time later in the Patoka River.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says 37-year old Brett Gehlhausen of Jasper was spotted a short time after leaving the drug court at about 11 o’clock office walking the bank of the Patoka River near South Newton Street in the area of Riverwalk Park.

A DCSD deputy spotted Gehlhausen who then fled into the river where the water was about 3-4 feet deep according.

DCSD says Gehlhausen hid for a short time in a large culvert under Clay Street.  He eventually came out of the culvert and went back into the river before a second deputy entered the river and took Gehlhausen into custody as he tried to flee once again.

Gehlhausen was arrested for Resisting Law Enforcement (a Class A Misdemenor).  He is currently being held at the Dubois County Security Center without bond on the drug charges including possession of cocaine.
