Anthony H. Denu, Jr., 87, of Dubois, died Tuesday (April 18) at Walnut Creek Care Facility in Evansville. He was born in Dubois November 27, 1929, to Anthony Sr. and Cecelia (Hentrup) Denu. He married Marie Giesler May 8, 1951, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.
Junior was a 1947 graduate of Dubois High School, a lifelong farmer, and a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church – St. Raphael Campus in Dubois. He was a past president of the County Council, a member of the Young Democrats and served as their district treasurer, the Dubois Jaycees, the Community Club of Dubois, the Executive Furniture Board of Directors, the 4-H Council, the board of directors of the Dubois Volunteer Fire Department, Knights of Columbus, Dubois County Park Board, and was awarded the Young Farmer of the Year Award in 1961. He enjoyed community work and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Denu; two daughters, Charlotte Seger and husband Keith and Janet Abbey and husband Jon, all of Evansville; three sons, Duane Denu and wife Rosemarie, Mark Denu and wife Ann, and Kevin Denu and wife Andrea, all of Dubois; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Hilmar Denu and wife Rosemary, Dubois.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three half-sisters, Matilda Sullivan, Evelyn Bauer, and Leona Howell, and seven half-brothers, Leo J., Albert, Emil, and Gilbert Denu and Odillo, Ralph, and Joe Terwiske.
Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Monday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Isidore Catholic Church, the Dubois County Community Foundation -Urban and June Giesler – Brookside Nursing Fund, or to a favorite charity.
