Jasper (NNDC) – A Dubois County sheriff deputy’s traffic stop in Jasper Monday afternoon resulted in the arrest of the driver on a felony drug charge.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says a deputy observed the SUV’s driver, 39-year old Chad Frey of Eckerty, failing to signal a turn at U. S. 231 at Indiana Street.

DCSD says Frye also had a false or ficticious registration for the SUV.

DCSD also says an ‘open air sniff’ of the vehicle by the department’s K9, Judge, detected the smell of burnt marijuana in the vehicle.  A .380 caliber handgun was also found.

DCSD says a small plastic bag containing a white crystalline substance was located in Frye’s right front pocket during a subsequent search.

DCSD says the white substance ‘field tested’ positive for methamphetamine.

Frye has been preliminary charged with a Level 5 felony count of Possession of Methamphetamine and a preliminary misdemeanor count of Possession of Paraphernalia.

DCSD says the presence of a handgun in the vehicle was an enhancing factor in the felony methamphetamine charge.
