Otto J. Kress, 95, of Jasper, died Friday (April 14) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. He was born in Jasper May 15, 1921, to Michael and Rosalia (Berger) Kress. He married Mary L. Bockelman February 7, 1942, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. She died January 7, 2016.
Otto was a U.S. Army veteran and served in World War II. He was a member of VFW Post No. 673, and a member and past commander of American Legion Post No. 147. He was also a member of St. Joseph Church, a co-owner of Hoosierland Insurance Agency and retired from the agency in 1984 and was a partner in the Knies and Kress Tile Company.
He is survived by two daughters, Kaye Kress and Jane Seidl and husband Ken, all of Jasper; daughter-in-law, Aggie Kress and husband John, Jasper; two sons, William “Bill” Kress and wife Michelle and Mark “Marty” Kress, all of Jasper; 16 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph and John Kress, two daughters, Marilyn and Barbara Kress, two great-grandchildren, Sawyer Beckman and Kasen Goepfrich, one sister, Claudine Linville, and five brothers, Bernard, Robert, Hubert, Edwin, and Thomas Kress.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. The American Legion Post 147 will conduct military graveside rites.
