Four Vehicle Construction Zone Accident Sends One To Hospital

Jasper (NNDC) – A four-vehicle accident inside a U. S. 231 bridge repair construction zone, shut down the highway for about an hour Thursday morning.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says a van driven by Whitney Kuhn of Huntingburg was southbound and stopped with other traffic at the automatic signal site entering the construction zone about a mile south of Indiana 162.

DCSD says Kuhn’s van was then rear-ended by a car driven Victoria M. Ridener of Dale.

Ridener says her attention was diverted for a short period and she failed to notice that the vehicles stopped in front of her had stopped.

DCSD says the collision from the impact force Kuhn’s fan into the rear of a compact SUV driven by Dustin C. Cooper of Huntingburg.  DCSD says Cooper’s vehicle then struck the rear of a second SUV driven by Dorothy Johnson of Dubois.

DCSD says Ridener was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital with cuts to her mouth and pain to her left arm.

DCSD says Kuhn complained of pain to her left arm and side but was not transported by ambulance after begin treated at the scene.

Cooper and Johnson were not hurt.

DCSD says the vehicles driven by Ridener, Kuhn and Cooper were total losses. Johnson was able to drive his vehicle from the scene.

Ridener was cited for speed too fast to avoid a collision.
